"Wawa Preece!"

Joshua's first 2 words he put together. He's getting good at saying "please" Sometimes when he whines and whines asking for something that we don't want him to have, and when he realizes that he's not having any success, he'll suddenly change his tune and say, "Please?" hoping we will relent. It makes me smile and laugh--and sometimes I do change my mind.

Thank You

The other morning, I heard Joshua repeatedly crying out "Momma" in the morning. When I entered his room, he stopped and said, "Dadda!" And then I gave him his milk cup, and he said, "Thank you." Joshua also says "Peeze" whenever he wants something--more Easter eggs to find, to go outside, to be held--but mostly for food. We don't have to worry about him going hungry silently.

Children's Museum

The new Children's Museum reopened this week and Joshua went to visit twice. He loves to look at the windmill spinning on the first floor, and is attracted to any exhibit where he can pretend to drive a car. It has been interesting to watch him slowly learn how to play with the train set in the PlaySpace, where he initially just grabbed the cars and banged them together--now he knows to push the trains along the tracks, let them go at the top of the hills, and watch them zoom down and crash! Lots of kids play at the train set, and Joshua is not afraid to assert himself!

At the Dana playground yesterday, he started going up the play structure and coming down the slide all by himself with lots of glee. He sits on the top of the slide, and flahes me a big smile before he comes giggling down the slide. He's a big boy now! We also get a lot of exercise on the swings--Joshua likes to be pushed for a few seconds and then wants to get on the neighboring swing--again and again and again....

Easter Egg Hunt

We had an Easter Egg party for Joshua and his friends!
Joshua got very excited whenever he found another egg and got to put it in his basket. We are replaying the egghunt everyday now.

I have "two!" Joshua says.

Bath Intruders

Ever since returning from our beach vacation, Joshua has had beach withdrawal symptoms. He wants to jump into the Charles River and Boston Harbor a la wave surfing in Puerto Rico. One benefit is that he loves to take baths now, especially using his beach toys. Today I decided to take a bath with him and spend extra time playing in the tub. However, shortly into the bath, I suddenly noticed some unexpected guests floating around in the tub and we had to immediately evacuate! I guess I had somehow missed Joshua's usual grunting and straining that comes with his poops. At least Joshua's bath toys came in handy--I used them to fish out the poop. The things we do as parents.

17 months old

Joshua turned 17 months today. We went to PB Kids and finally got him a kiddie table and chair (at very adult prices). He loves to sit at the table and read and to scribble madly with his crayons. Today, he also said "Reeche!"=rice, and "Unrella!"=umbrella. These days, Joshua seems to be understanding so much, like when we tell him to show us his feet, or to take a big step. Annette taught him his first Korean body party--ear, or "kee" which Joshua seemed to pick up pretty quickly. Now it's up to me expose him to some Chinese.

Weekend

It was nice to have a whole weekend off--yesterday, we took Joshua to the ICA. Annette was glad to see Joshua so interested in looking at the exhibits. Though he did seem to have the most fun afterwards in the parking lot playing with a big piece of rope. We are so glad spring is here and that the weather is warming up. I got him a tricycle, a soccer ball, and some sand toys today to prepare for outside play. Joshua loves to call out for "Momma" these days. Sometimes, he will still ask for me, "Bobba!" I love that. When I carry him sleeping in my arms, I feel there is nothing more important for me than to do everything I can to love, protect, and cherish this little guy. He is such a delight.

Puerto Rico

I loved playing in the pool,

sitting with mommy in the surf,
taking a nap in the big bed,

and eating quesidillas!
