Jungle Style!

We were at the park today and Joshua announced he had to go pee, and since there was no bathroom around, it was going to be "jungle style!" Annette's term for peeing in the woods.

Haircut

Joshua is seen here getting a haircut in Chinatown. Ming is his favorite barber. Gives him a lollipop after the haircut.

I used to have to bring books and toys to try to keep Joshua sitting still, but now he sits and endures all by himself.

Prego!

Joshua was eating dinner the other night and then offered some of his food to Annette, saying, "Prego!"

He has said some poignant things to Annette recently, showing that being a big brother and sharing mom and dad with his little brother is tough. As he was watching Annette hold Samuel the other day, he looked at her and said earnestly, "I want to be Samuel." Not whining or complaining, just in a real heartfelt way.

Then this evening, as Annette was feeding Samuel and was moving around the house, Joshua kept close by and with some tears in his eyes, said "I follow you mommy wherever you go."

I love you as high as the stars

I was tucking Joshua into bed tonite and I whispered to him, "Let me tell you a secret. I love you very much." He whispered back, "I love you as high as the stars!"

Joshua Updates

It's funny to see that Joshua likes planes, like his dad.

Carmen, says it's a little unusual to see a child who likes to hum and sing so much. He does love to sing, make up songs, play music. When we make up new songs, he just loves to go with it and sings along.

We had a blast this Easter inviting Joshua's friends from his old Korean playgroup over for an Easter Egg Hunt. The grownups were eating dinner in the dining room, and the three boys ate their easter egg goodies in the living room and ran around together all evening. It felt like a family get together. It was fun to see Joshua so interactive and having so much fun--before when they were all younger, Joshua would mostly play by himself in the playgroup.

When we went to a Easter brunch, he said, "Yeh! Happy Easter! God isn't dead anymore! He's alive again!"

Joshua has always been a bit hesitant on the playstructures. This week, he was practicing sliding down the fireman's pole at home, using a broomstick. Then we practiced at the school playground:

The Monkeys

It's Springtime, so we took advantage of some Zoo passes from the library to visit the lions and monkeys again. It was only after the photo was taken I realized the similarities between the 2 families above.

At the zoo, a kid gorilla came right up to the glass in front of Joshua, sat down, vomitted into her hands and showed it to Joshua before she ate it again.

Joshua was running around the gorilla habitat, really excited to see all the different animals. He hasn't been to the zoo in awhile, and it was neat to see his enthusiasm and interest.

Joshua the firefighter

Sometime in mid January, Joshua made the transition from being obsessed with trains, to being obsessed with fire engines and being a firefighter.

He will ask us, "Do I look like a firefighter?" And when we say "yes," he continues, "Why?"Annette and I feed his obsession: with this cool Fire Chief outfit with helmet, bullhorn, and fire extinguisher. I've checked out 6 different children's books from the library about fire trucks/firemen. We even read a book that was called, "My mom is a firefighter!"
