I like Jinwoo the best!

In Joshua's playgroup, one of the moms is really in love with Joshua and wants to set him up with her daughter, Unji. Unji's mom is always asking him, "Who do you prefer, Unji or Jiwoo?"
"Who do you want to marry?" To her great dismay, Joshua always says, "I like Jinwoo the best!"

Do you have diarrhea?

One our residents in the dorm was holding a banana last nite and asked Joshua, "What am I going to eat Joshua?" Joshua promptly replied, "Banana!" And then added, "Do you have diarrhea?" We trained Joshua to eat bananas when he gets diarrhea telling him, "The banana makes the diarrhea goes away." I guess he's really been listening.

I dance normal

says Joshua in response to me saying, "I dance like crazy!"

These days, I've been trying to treasure sleeping, in anticipation of the little sleep we will be getting once Samuel is born. So I stay in bed as long as I can, and usually awaken to a sweet little voice by my ear saying, "It's daytime! Wake up dadda!"

He picked up two identical stuffed animal chicks and said, "Twins! They're Chingus!" Joshua likes to mix in his Korean with English every once in a while. "Chingus" is "friends", he explains to me.

Joshua's nighttime sleep has been going well, but he's gotten into the habit of needing to be strolled around in his Bugaboo for his afternoon nap before he'll fall asleep. He'll then sleep in the stroller for up to 3 hrs.

He likes to read

Joshua's last activity at nite and first activity in the morning, is to go to his bookshelf and pull out a book to bring to his bed to read. It's very sweet to watch. I feel bad when we have to turn off the light and he gets upset because he can't read in the dark anymore.

I'm so happy to see you Mama!

Annette is so proud of Joshua when she comes home from work and Joshua says to her unprompted: "I'm so happy to see you Mama!"

Back to Sleep

It looks like Joshua has finally gotten over his night time sleeping fears. It took a while, and a lot out of Annette. One night, she came up to me and said, "I give up." The crying, screaming, escaping from the room was tiring her and stressing her out. So I laid down some simple rules for Joshua--once the gate was closed, no Joshua going out, and no dadda going in. He would open the door and holler at the gate, stack up toys, cushions, and chairs to try to escape, and would even sleep on the floor at the gate. But once he understood we weren't going to give in, his crying shortened progressively, until it was just 2 minutes last nite, and none tonite--where he just went down without a complaint.

And he was so sweet about it tonite. He didn't fall asleep right away, so in the dark, he got out of bed, walked over to his bookshelf, and picked out a book to read in bed. I checked on him a little later, and he was fast asleep, with his hands clutched to the open pages of his "Tails" book. It just warms my heart.

We went to the Watertown spraypool again today and afterwards, he told me, "I had a lot of fun with you today dada!"

Joshua had a great time at his first visit to the preschool today. We stayed for an hour and a half, and he copied the other kids eating Kix for breakfast--he had 4 bowls and poured his own cereal and milk for the first time. I have no doubt that Annette and I baby Joshua incredibly, and going to school, will probably allow Joshua to blossom in ways that will blow us away.

Making Sushi

First day at preschool

Tomorrow, Annette and I will take Joshua for a trial run at his preschool. Kind of a big day for all of us. A prelude to September 2.

Oedipal complex

Joshua pushed me off the sofa, and as I played dead, he told Annette "Your husband died!" , and then he proceeded to kiss her.

Somebody will take me

Annette asked Joshua if he would wait alone while Annette went away briefly to the bathroom, and he said, "No, someone will take me."

Thuderstorms

have ruined Joshua's happy sleep cycle. He has gotten so freaked out by the thunderstorms that he's hypersensitive to other loud sounds, and hasn't been able to sleep well at night or for naps the past week. He grabs tightly onto our arms as we try to leave his bedroom at night--we've tried to install a gate at the door to keep him from escaping his bedroom in the middle of the night. He's never been like that--always so happy to go to sleep, so it's been a big change for us to see Joshua having so much trouble sleeping.

Jesus makes me happy

I was playing with Joshua this morning and he said a bunch of funny things:
"Jesus makes me happy"
"Okey-dokey"
"The light turned on FINALLY"
"God makes happy people"
